Senior Product Integrity Specialist

Swimways Corporation, located in Virginia Beach, VA, is a leader in outdoor recreational products. Swimways has joined with Spin Master to create an outdoor Global Business Unit. Our mission is making free time more fun through innovation! We currently have an opening for a Senior Product Integrity Specialist to work at our office in Virginia Beach.


  • Actively participate in the New Product Development process to ensure that product designs will meet safety and regulatory requirements and initiatives. Conduct risk assessment, ensure proper age grading and warning applications, and advise on potential production issues relating to safety and quality.
  • Act as a knowledge resource for Product Integrity department members with regard to existing state and federal requirements for product safety and compliance.
  • Research and communicate the testing requirements and product/packaging modifications for items being sold outside standard North American distribution channels.
  • Daily communication with China team to resolve open compliance or safety issues with products currently in or being planned for production. Provide testing guidance to product teams, suppliers and overseas offices.
  • Ensure that products, packages and instruction manuals meet regulatory standards for safety warnings, claims, and labeling in accordance with CPSC, FTC, IABFLO, etc. Ensure product database files for assigned products are complete and current.
  • Evaluate product samples to ensure products are designed and manufactured according to Swimways' safety and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate quotations from appointed 3rd party testing labs and authorize testing as needed.
  • Research and discuss interpretations of applicable standards with test labs or retailers when discrepancies arise during the testing process.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve product safety or quality issues reported by consumers or retailers.
  • Review Mass Retailer programs or protocols as needed and identify whether changes to product or packaging may be required for compliance.
  • Monitor standards development committee activities (ASTM, ISO) and educate department on potential impact of pending regulatory changes.
  • Attend technical training classes and seminars to enhance knowledge of assigned area.


  • 4 year degree required.
  • 5+ years’ experience with U.S. regulations and industry standards related to product safety. Experience in a test lab or in the toy/ juvenile industry is a plus.
  • Experience with ASTM and CPSIA.
  • Resourceful, with the ability to think creatively to find solutions.
  • Extremely organized and highly detailed with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be proficient researcher with an aptitude for reading technical / regulatory manuals.
  • Flexibility to handle varying assignments and to accommodate shifting priorities.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor toward all contacts, whether internal or external.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
